The Trails Recreation

South Aurora’s recreation facility has many great ways for you to get fit this year…and have fun while doing it!

For more than 10 years, The Trails 78,000 square foot facility has been serving the surrounding community and the families that call this area home with outstanding programs and state of the art services and amenities. Programs and services include youth and adult groups, private/semi-private swim lessons, athletic classes and leagues, dance, and personal training options. If you haven’t been to the Trails lately, you haven’t seen all the new equipment that was recently added. No matter how cold it gets outside, you can stop in to try out brand new treadmills, ellipticals, traverse trainers, rowing machines, jacob’s ladder, recumbent and upright bikes.

Apart from the new fitness equipment, there are over 80 group fitness classes per week including land & water, personal trainings, boot camp, women on weights and senior fitness programs.

Some highlights for programming in 2018 include:

Martial Arts

  • Taekwondo for ages 4-adult held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
  • NEW in 2018 – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for ages 5-12 years held on Monday and Wednesday evenings


  • Learn-to-Swim – Are you and your child water safe? The Trails offers both group and private swim lessons to individuals of all ages (6 months-adult) with a variety of days and times available to meet your busy lifestyle!
  • Adult Swim Conditioning Club – Looking to add some variety to your swim? This program is designed for adults who have basic swim abilities and will focus on developing endurance, refining strokes and a focus on timing in a coached setting. Adult Conditioning is great for Triathletes looking to train for their next race, or anybody who is looking to make improvement in their swimming ability. Program runs Friday mornings from 6-7:15 am.
  • Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Training – Are you a swimmer looking for the ultimate part-time job? The Trails offers American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor courses throughout the year. Learn and teach life-saving skills, develop leadership skills and earn money in a fun and dynamic environment!


The Trails offers youth basketball clinics & leagues, youth volleyball classes, adult volleyball leagues, parent & tot and youth gymnastics classes.

Special Programming

  • Journey to Wellness – Programs for Cancer Patients and Survivors. This wonderful NEW program is dedicated to providing cancer patients and survivors with affordable & empowering fitness programs in a healthy, positive, supportive environment within their community. With the guidance of our Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist/Certified Personal Trainers, the program provides one-on-one guidance or group sessions for all cancer patients or survivors that will aid in the recovery & general fitness and wellness during and after cancer treatment.   • In addition to all the Youth and Teen programming, The Trails also offers fantastic camps during school breaks. Camps include: Little Medical School, Play-Well TEKnologies Lego camps, Mad Science, Trails Mix, Challenge Island, Incrediflix, KinderBots, and Fantasy Quest. For older adults, The Trails offers numerous classes through the SilverSneakers® program, which encompasses physical activity, health education and social events designed specifically for older adults. Take part in SilverSneakers® Classic or Circuit classes, Gentle Yoga, Aqua Zumba and Splash classes. SilverSneakers® class schedules can be found online at
