Summer in the City

It may have taken a few weeks to settle in to the new routine; the longer days, the warmer temps and the more relaxed schedule for the kids. With that comes the age old summer question, “what are we going to do today?” The City of Aurora invites you to join your friends and neighbors in some serious, FREE, summer fun! If you missed the June dates for Summer in the City, don’t worry, there’s still time to get outside and enjoy this beautiful Rocky Mountain weather. Come out from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Mission Viejo Park on July 11th and August 1st, at the Aurora Municipal Center Great Lawn on July 20th for some FREE family fun!

Originally, this event was held in Del Mar Park as a replacement for entertainment for residents waiting for the reopening of the newly renovated Del Mar Pool. Each year since, Summer in the City has continued to grow, often drawing residents to each of the weekly events, which went “on the road” to other locations, with multiple dates, after that inaugural year. Along with Mission Viejo and the Municipal Center, Summer in the City was hosted at both Del Mar and Montview Parks.

The weekly Summer in the City events, which began June 1st and will run through August 1st, offer free healthy snacks, inflatables, board and field games and the chance to take a swing at the game of golf or try your hand (and feet) at gymnastics.
The Library and the Aurora History Museum will be on hand for summer fun as well with crafts and other educational opportunities for everyone to enjoy.

Aurora’s Summer in the City program is the perfect excuse to get outside and have some fun with the entire family (and maybe learn something new too!) There are three dates left to check out all there is to offer from the Park and Recreation and Open Space Departments as well as to see what the Library and the History Museum are up to as well.

Mission Viejo Park (7/11 & 8/1) is located at 3999 S Mission Pkwy, Aurora, CO 80013. The Aurora Municpal Center (7/20) is located at 15151 E Alameda Pkwy, Aurora, CO 80012. Don’t want to hassle with finding parking? No problem. The RTD R-Line can drop you at the Aurora Metro Station, which is walking distance from the Summer in the City event at the Municipal Center.
