You may be familiar with the huge greenhouse, filled inside and out, with amazing trees and plants that is nestled right of Parker Road. Tagawa Gardens is hard to miss, but you may not realize just how rich the history behind Tagawa really is. The Tagawa family bought the greenhouse property in 1978 and grew long stem roses for the wholesale trade. When the blizzard of 1982 crushed many of the greenhouses, they decided to convert part of the greenhouse into a retail garden center and continued to grow long stem roses. Now the property is all garden center, but they still grow most of their own potted roses and annuals. The property was not originally purchased with the intention of being a retail store, but luckily for everyone in this area, it evolved into the amazing garden retail center is it today.

In addition to the seemingly endless options of indoor and outdoor plants, flowers and trees that Tagawa continually has available, they also offer classes about gardening, nature, crafts, cooking and many other topics. You can also enjoy concerts, family events, trail walks and all sorts of other activities each and every month. Tagawa’s calendar page is definitely one to bookmark and visit often to be sure you’re not missing any of the fun! This month, check out Tagawa’s fall family festival the first three weekends of October; perfect for families with younger children looking for lots of fun, fall activities that visitors of every age will enjoy. Although some activities are ticketed, all the educational booths and stage shows are free and appropriate for any age. The Pumpkin Festival runs the first three weekends of October, Saturday and Sunday from 10am-3pm. Grab unique and traditional pumpkins, gourds and corn stalks for your fall décor and stock up fall color with favorites including Black Eyed Susans and ornamental cabbage to really make it feel like autumn has finally arrived.

Tagawa’s dedicated staff, which collectively has over 800 years of experience, are committed to upholding their vision, “to provide an enjoyable experience for our community, as well as the highest quality service, products and education, and respect for our environment.” The staff stands by that in every aspect of what they do, from growing many of their annuals, roses and other types of plants right there on the premises, to offering onsite and offsite custom container gardening services. The practice what they preach as well, even using mostly beneficial insects to control insect pests in their greenhouses, to keep the staff, and community and environment safe.

The staff at Tagawa firmly believes that everyone can benefit from having plants in their home. Plants help clean the air through their photosynthesis process, help relieve stress, induce relaxation and increase productivity. Many people begin with a small plant like a succulent or air plant (Tillandsia) and get hooked on the wonderful benefits plants bring to their life. The staff at Tagawa make it their mission to help you find the perfect plants for your home, whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or all thumbs when it comes to gardening.
