7/20 Memorial Service

The horrific tragedy that occurred on July 20th, 2012, leaves a deep scar in all our hearts. Lest we never forget and continue to honor the 13 lives taken, the 70 wounded and countless others whose lives have forever been changed by the horrors of that night, the 7/20 Memorial Foundation invites you to join them in the Reflection Garden on Friday, July 27th, at 6:30pm for the memorial dedication of “Asentiate.” This memorial sculpture, created by artist Douwe Blumberg, will consist of 83 cranes, thirteen in the center will represent those who lost their lives that night. The seventy birds surrounding those thirteen will represent the injured, all taking flight into the sky. The hope is to both honor those lost and acknowledge the resilience of the survivors and first responders in a space that will allow for serenity and reflection for all who visit. Prior to the dedication, on Thursday, July 19th, the annual midnight remembrance vigil will begin at 11pm in the garden. The ceremony will include an Aurora Police Procession and the white crosses by Greg Zanis.
If you’d like to get a preview of this beautiful memorial and help the 7/20 Foundation, join the community at the 3rd Annual Reflection Garden on Tap Benefit. Saturday, July 14th, from 1-4pm, enjoy unlimited beer tastings from local breweries, food trucks, live music featuring The Dollhouse Thieves, and sidewalk chalk artists all within an intimate garden setting. Admission to the event is free, but purchase of a $35 wristband for beer tasting is required for those 21 and over. Tickets are available online at http://bit.ly/720BeerFest, or visit the foundation’s booth at one of the City of Aurora summer events for tickets.

In addition to the Garden on Tap Benefit and the memorial dedication, the foundation has partnered with the Rebels Project to host a survivor connection prior to the ceremony. If more information is needed for this special gathering, please contact the 7/20 Foundation (7-20memorial.org)
